The support methods of traffic signs can be divided into four types: column type, cantilever type, gantry type, and attached type.
The support method of traffic signs should be comprehensively determined based on factors such as traffic volume, vehicle type composition, number of lanes, distribution of structures along the line, wind load, and roadside conditions.
(1) Warnings, prohibitions, instruction signs and small-sized guide signs should be supported by single columns, while medium and large guide signs can be supported by double columns or multi-columns.
(2) When the following conditions are met, suspended support methods such as cantilever type or gantry type can be used as needed (cantilever type should be used when the page content is small):
①When the traffic volume reaches or approaches the design capacity;
②When the design of the interchange is complex;
③When there are three or more lanes in one direction;
④When the distance between interconnected grade-level intersections is relatively close;
⑤When the exit is multi-lane;
⑥When large vehicles account for a large proportion;
⑦When passing through multiple interchanges to maintain consistency in the location of sign information;
⑧When the roadside installation space is insufficient or blocked;
⑨When connecting the hub between two expressways;
⑩When the exit ramp is a left exit;
Grade intersection signs or exit warning signs located at the starting point of the interchange deceleration lane.
(3) When there are structures such as overpasses along the highway, and high retaining walls, lighting poles, etc. are installed on the roadside, traffic signs can use attached support methods on the premise that they meet the requirements of highway construction limits.
